Ask.fm is a micro blogging platforms in which it is simple to ask questions, find answers and start conversations with your friends or anyone in the world. The site was founded in 2010 in Riga, Latvia. Ask.fm is an anonymous question and answer platform website used regularly by lots of young people in Ireland and around the world. People can get the information they are looking for by asking a quick anonymous question and wait for the persons answer. One thing parents and others are scared about is that no one monitors the content on Ask.fm. This could lead to bullying and can get inappropriate content on this website.

  3. EBay: social commerce site that allows people to buy or sell anything they would like to online. A seller posts the item on eBay and either chooses to auction it off with bids or allow people to buy it at the listed price. EBay was founded on September 3, 1995 in San Jose, California by Pierre Omidyar. As of now, eBay is a multibillion dollar site and operates in many countries around the world, with about 250 million users buying and selling goods. Although there are several bizarre objects sold on eBay, the first thing ever listed on the site was a broken laser pointer, sold for $14.83. As of now, the most expensive purchase on the site a Gulfstream II Jet that sold for $4.9 million in 2001. The way this site delivers information is simple: a seller shows everyone the item they are willing to sell and any buyer that is looking for said object, whether for collecting purposes or otherwise, can buy it at the price that the seller gives.

    2. This is such an interesting site because it makes shopping wayyy easier. With just a click of a button i can buy whatever I want and not have to get up and find the item in stores. It's also more convenient when I don't have time to look for a product, like when i am busy with school and work and really need to buy markers for a project, i can do it in one minute. I wonder what was the most bizarre item sold on this site? (Shayleen Nin)

  4. Facebook is a social networking website, launched in February 2004 from Cambridge, MA, which allows users to create profiles, upload images and videos, send instant messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. There are over 2.23 billion monthly active users and about 73% of the users are active everyday. An interesting fact about Facebook is that the first "face" to appear on the website was of Al Pacino, a portrait of a man hidden behind binary code. This social media platform has connected families through the use of instant messaging and creating group pages. My family was able to plan our annual family reunion over Facebook because of the advanced technology that Facebook has incorporated into their website.

    * Tumblr is a social networking and microblogging platform that was started in 2007 by David Karp. This website allows the users to post multi-media and other content to form a short blog.
    * Amazingly, Tumblr has over 100 million blogs, and only 167 employees.
    * Unlike other social media platforms, Tumblr users are equally divided between men and women.
    * They facilitate information through text, photos, videos, and audio clips

  9. (Ray Logan:) I chose the website Reddit to discuss. Reddit is a social networking platform. It was launched in 2005 by college roommates and has become what fans call a website with "great things going on" and what critics call "toxic" and "the worst thing to ever disgrace this place we call earth." It has roughly 542 million unique visitors each year. Reddit is one of the most controversial sites on the internet due to its community-moderated setup and massive quantities of offensive content. An example of Reddit facilitating information delivery is moderators elected by the community. They, of course, are usually no better than the community itself, meaning that very little sorting of things worth reading and things that are insanely offensive go on there. This website is a disaster and a personal favorite of many like myself.

    5. 1. Many of the threads on Reddit delve into topics that they probably wouldn't bring up in real life, often borderline illegal, but usually just plain rude.
      2. Moderators are chosen by the community, and they are usually someone that either helped start the thread or just share similar views with most of the community.
      3. You don't have to pay to use Reddit, though you can make purchases of their currency in order to show appreciation for a post by giving it away beyond an upvote.

    Blogging

WordPress is a very popular site for blogging and website creation. It is very easy to use and is also very a powerful tool for newer bloggers.

According to a statistics post by Tom Ewer, approximately 74.6 million sites use and depend on WordPress.

One unique fact about WordPress is that there are approximately 6 posts posted per second on the site which adds up to approximately 7.49 million posts per year.

One example of how WordPress facilitates information delivery is that they have systems that document incoming posts and have a feature where users can flag posts.

  13. (Madison Garriss) My social media site is Google +, and its social platform is instant messaging. The launch date of Google + was June 28, 2011, and was founded by Vic Gundotra. Google + is an internet based social media that is owned by Google in which you chat with others, and can be compared to Facebook's instant messaging. Google wanted to "replicate the way people interact offline." There is 111 million users of Google +, but only about 6.7 million of those have more than 50 posts. An interesting fact about this social media site is that there is a 5,000 maximum friend limit on each person's profile. An example of how Google plus facilitates information delivery is that it helps with outside classroom discussion to increase communication, and people's awareness of new research.

Other past and current Tagged partnerships have included Slide, RockYou, PhotoBucket, Meebo, Razz, and Jangl. In February 2009, following complaints from the public Tagged was blocked in Qatar by the only ISP, Qtel, due to inappropriate content that Qtel could not selectively filter. Tagged.com had been one of the top ten most visited sites in Qatar.

In January 2010, Tagged announced that it was donating $50,000 to the Yéle Haiti Earthquake Fund, partly stemming from user donations. In the same month, Tagged won a $200,000 judgment against Erik Voegler, who was spamming other Tagged users.

    Kik

Kik, an instant messaging app, was launched on October 19, 2010 by a group of college students at the University of Waterloo. It was the first app developed by what is now the Canadian company Kik Interactive. It was made available for both iOS and Android operating systems free of charge. It operates on both data and Wifi to send messages both one-on-one and in large groupchats of up to 49 people, as well as videos, pictures, and other forms of media. The app had 300 million users as of 2016. Kik is similar to other messaging apps such as Viber and WhatsApp, but also has additional features as opposed to just messaging such as an internal internet browse, stickers, and games. Kik has become controversial over some of their in-app features such as “Match & Chat” and “Flirt!”. Both features are dating focused, which is a large concern for parents of children using the app. The biggest issue is any user can decide what age range of people they would like to be matched to, creating concern over adults attempting to talk to kids. The anonymous chatting feature has also led to the cases of cyberbullying and sharing inappropriate content. Kik does have some protections in place though and allows users to block other users. Kik also allows users to turn off address book adding, making it such that the only way someone can add a user as a “friend” is by knowing the user’s exact username. Kik can also suspend or permanently ban users for not following the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.

Founded in Beverly Hills on August 1, 2003 , Myspace rose in popularity rapidly to become the world's most used site in 2006. Myspace had about 80 million users in it's peak, from about 2006 to 2008, but since then has had a major crash and is pretty much obsolete. Myspace shows that it still has about 50 million users today, but most of them are totally abandoned accounts. Myspace may be dead now, but it definitely wasn't a failure. Myspace's total revenue since it started totals at about 109 million dollars today. In its prime Myspace was one of the most successful sites of the late 2000s, and offered a new way to share posts and make "friends", all online on their platform. One example of this was how you could enter a "top 8" on your personal profile. 3. I remember hearing that you could play your favorite song on your profile on Myspace. What are some other ways you can customize your profile? Was there any way to regulate the kind of music that you played on your profile? It seems that this customization could be easily exploitable.

    4. Myspace seems like a cool website to be able to share a bunch of things that you like. It almost seems like a bunch of different social medias put together into one. Why don't we see this website now?

    5. Who goes on myspace anymore? I know it started first but I think it's time to change things up. If they added new features, maybe people would sign on more. It will need all the help it can get to survive in this dog eat dog world of business.

Google plus used to be a social networking platform
It was a social media platform operated by google. Linked other google platforms together such as YouTube and Blogger.
Google Plus accumulated over 2 billion users but only had 395 active monthly users.
It also changed the way YouTube accounts were made. Now YouTube Channels share the same name as the Google Plus account linked to it.
Google Plus was eventually discontinued "due to low user engagement and disclosed software design flaws that potentially allowed outside developers access to personal information of its users"
It has since been re-branded as "Google Currents"
